Sunwolf Outdoor Centre    Canada

Sunwolf is nestled along the Cheakamus River in Brackendale BC, next to the heartland of recreation. 45 KM south of Whistler, British Columbia and 60km north of Vancouver, Squamish is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. Where else can one find world-class whitewater rafting, mountain biking, mountaineering, back country skiing, canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, windsurfing and scuba diving, all in a spectacular environment within an hour's drive of a world renowned alpine ski resort (Blackcomb/Whistler – voted North America's #1 ski resort by several skiing publications) and the booming metropolis of Vancouver. Our friendly staff is here to arrange any of these activities. The staff's common bond is of course Sunwolf, but we also share an abiding respect and love of the Squamish community and environs. Because of this, we have explored the area and look forward to sharing it with all our visitors.

Situated on over 5 acres, Sunwolf Outdoor Centre's riverside cabins provide guests with comfort, tranquility and the quaintness that only escaping the city can accommodate. We have 10 beautifully renovated cabins which sit at the edge of the Cheakamus River. All feature cathedral ceilings, gas fireplaces, fir floors and handcrafted pine furniture which includes both a double and single bed. The private cabins offer seclusion and escape from the fast pace of the city, not to mention an ideal finish to a great day of adventure. We welcome your pets, however an additional $10.00 CDN cleaning fee will be added to the cost of your stay.

Why Visit?
Every year, Brackendale hosts one of the largest populations of bald eagles in the world. In 1994 the highest concentration of bald eagles ever counted gathered here - over 3700. Starting in mid November and continuing through March these magnificent birds are here feeding on the salmon that spawn in the glacial fed Squamish and Cheakamus rivers. During this spectacular season Sunwolf Outdoor Centre provides the opportunity to view the eagles from a remarkable vantage point - the river. Our primary goal is to provide an up close experience as well as information and knowledge on the eagles, their habits and their habitats. By educating and informing people about these beautiful birds we believe we can participate in preserving their winter home. Viewing from silent, paddle powered river rafts allows individuals a chance to see the eagles from a much closer perspective without interfering with the eagles natural routine. Our trips run from December to March.

Our day trip features an exhilarating class IV whitewater descent through towering canyons and past cascading waterfalls. The fun begins with a run through the Elaho River's revered 'Devil's Elbow'. Ahead of you a gauntlet: on your left, two impressive curlers affectionately known as 'Dynamic' & 'Disaster', jutting cliffs frame the river's edge. From there, you continue through a multitude of class II, III, and IV rapids. Absorb the breathtaking vistas as you pass glacier-peaked mountain ranges shrouded in forests of cedar, hemlock and fir. The crystal waters of the Elaho take you swiftly into the glacial-silted Squamish where the 'Fun Rapid' and the ever-popular 'Surf City' serve as warm-up for the dazzling 'Steamroller' Rapid, where 10-14ft standers and haystacks have you screaming with glee at every wave. Catch your breath and look back at cathedral-like Mount Cayley and its volcanic pyroclastic peaks.>br>
If the adrenaline rush of white water isn't what you're looking for, we also offer a float raft trip down the spectacular Cheakamus River which boasts stunning views of the Tantalus Mountain Range and Mount Garibaldi. Wildlife, including deer, black bear, coyote and abundant waterfowl including the odd bald eagle, is often seen during this trip. It's a perfect family outting with a few bumps to wet your face but not enough to lose your hat.

Our lodge has a beautiful conference room with two fireplaces, polished hardwood floors, and a breathtaking view of the snow- capped peaks of the Tantalus Range. We can provide catering service through the Sunwolf Café. Perfect for a weekend seminar, workshop, or retreat. Our main lodge provides guests with a perfect place to meet, gather information and plan an outing. Books, topographic maps and friendly, experienced staff are here to help familiarize our guests with the area and help them decide what to do and where to go.
